A pilot of Indigo Airlines was killed in a road accident in Sector 114 late on Sunday, when the car he was driving hit a high speed truck-trolley that was going on the wrong side of the road.
According to police, the collision occurred at around 12.20 am when 38-year-old pilot Anmol Verma was returning from the airport to his residence in Sector 109. Police said the injured pilot was taken to a private hospital and his car was completely damaged due to the impact.
Commissioner of Police KK Rao said, "The truck driver was driving from the wrong side and the two vehicles collided strongly. The pilot driving was seriously injured and rushed to a hospital, where he died within an hour. The front of the truck was also damaged. "
Police said the driver of the tractor-trolley abandoned his vehicle and escaped on foot. He was to be arrested on Monday evening. Gurugram has registration number in the truck. “We have received a complaint from the deceased's friend, Captain Pankaj Kaushal, and have registered a case. The truck driver will also be caught soon. The pilot died of excessive bleeding and head injury, ”said Rao.
The body of the pilot was handed over to his family members after the post-mortem.
The complainant, Kaushal, said that he got a call at around 12.30 am from a passer-by who witnessed the accident and called him from Verma's mobile phone. “By the time I reached the spot, he had been taken to the hospital. He moved to Gurugram with his wife a few months ago. He was blessed with a child three months ago. He lived in Delhi for 25 years before shifting to the city.
A case under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304B (causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the truck driver at Baghera police station on Monday.
KK Rao, the commissioner of police, said, “The truck driver was driving on the wrong side and there was a massive head-on collision between the two vehicles. The pilot, who was driving, had sustained severe injuries and rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries within an hour. The front portion of the truck was also damaged.”
The police said the driver of the tractor-trolley abandoned his vehicle and escaped on foot. He was yet to be arrested on Monday evening. The truck has a registration number of Gurugram. “We have received a complaint from Captain Pankaj Kaushal, a friend of the deceased, and have registered a case. The truck driver will also be nabbed soon. The pilot died of excessive bleeding and head injuries,” said Rao.
