Airline Hiring in Flybe Airline by Rumana Maner

Airline Hiring in Flybe Airline

 @Rumana Maner

Flybe, styled as Flybe, was a British airline based in Exeter, England. Until its sale to Connect Airways in 2019, it was the largest independent regional airline in Europe. Flybe once provided more than half of UK domestic flights outside London.

The airline was launched in 1979 as Jersey European Airways following the merger of Intra Airways and Express Air Services. In 1983, the airline was sold to Walker Steel Group, which also owned Spacegrand Aviation, and the two airlines were merged under the Jersey European name during 1985. The airline experienced significant growth during the 1990s; it was in this period that Jersey European Airways served as the launch customer for the Embraer E-195 regional airliner. The firm was renamed British European in 2000 and Flybe in 2002. On 3 November 2006, it was announced that Flybe was in the process of purchasing BA Connect, which resulted in the airline becoming the largest regional airline in Europe. On 10 December 2010, the company was floated in an IPO on the London Stock Exchange.

In February 2019, the airline was sold to the Connect Airways consortium, backed by Virgin Atlantic and Stobart Aviation. Connect Airways intended Flybe and Stobart Air to subsequently rebrand as Virgin Connect, though they would have retained their own Air Operator Certificates.

On 5 March 2020, Flybe filed for administration and ceased all operations. The airline, which had been struggling for several months, claimed that its difficulties were compounded by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on bookings.

In October 2020, Thyme Opco, a company linked to former shareholder Cyrus Capital, had reached an agreement with the administrators to purchase the Flybe brand and relaunch the airline in 2021, subject to regulatory approvals. In April 2021, the new company renamed itself Flybe Limited, obtained an operating licence, route licences and airport slots; the first flight took place on 13 April 2022.

Commencing operations from Belfast City Airport and Birmingham International Airport, a new and improved flybe will provide customers with great value, more choices, and the opportunity to quickly and more conveniently visit loved ones, go on holiday, and more easily visit customers or attend important meetings.

Flybe has plans to rapidly grow and is expected to play a crucial role in creating valuable jobs in Belfast and Birmingham, as well as connecting communities, and helping to restart local economies across the UK and Europe. flybe plans to grow its fleet of fast, quiet, and CO2 efficient Dash 8-400 planes to a planned size of 32 aircraft.

The New Flybe Is Hiring Staff in Birmingham:

Freshly revamped British regional carrier Flybe is hiring crew for its new Birmingham base.

British regional carrier Flybe is hiring staff at its new base in Birmingham. The freshly revamped airline is scheduled to begin operations to key regions across the UK and EU in early 2022 and is aiming to create approximately 200 new jobs in the Birmingham and West Midlands region over the next three years.

Crew to be based at new Birmingham HQ

The airline announced their intentions to operate from the Birmingham Airport (BHX) late last year. The West Midlands city is located approximately 100 miles north of London, and ranks as the second-largest in the United Kingdom, with around 3.6 million inhabitants within the metropolitan area.

The new Headquarters and Operations Centre at Birmingham Airport’s Diamond House was announced last year and follows news that Flybe has become one of the first UK airlines to be certified by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) since Brexit. Flybe CEO Dave Pflieger said in a statement:

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Birmingham Airport (BHX), the City of Birmingham, and the Mayor of West Midlands to make BHX the location of our new headquarters and first crew base. It was an ideal choice for us due to its great people and highly skilled workforce, its central UK location, and the fact that Birmingham Airport is a global travel hub where local and connecting customers have access to over 150 worldwide destinations. Today’s announcement marks the culmination of over 12 months of dedicated hard work by all involved, and it would not have been possible without the support of the CAA and the UK Government.”

Birmingham in the West Midlands was Flybe's second-busiest airport by total flights in 2019, with the carrier operating almost one-third of the airport's routes.

Flybe is seeking experienced cabin crew

The airline has posted job listings for cabin crew and managers in Birmingham and Northern Ireland. The Flybe is offering permanent contracts at its Birmingham and Belfast bases for experienced cabin crew and managers for an "early 2022" launch. The closing date for the applications has been set as March 18th, but the airline warns it may close the job advertisement early if they receive sufficient applications.

Job advertisements on Flybe's website and LinkedIn page are currently only for experienced crew members. Applicants for the fresh new Flybe must hold a valid Cabin Crew Medical and UK-issued Cabin Crew Attestation or an EASA Attestation issued prior to January 1st 2021.

Potential crew must also be between 5’2 and 6’0 (without shoes), have no visible tattoos or piercings, and be able to live and work unrestricted in the UK. All applicants must also hold a valid passport, full UK Driving Licence, and live within 60 minutes travelling distance from a base airport. Currently, the options are Birmingham (BHX) and Belfast (BEL) in Northern Ireland.

It really is such brilliant news that Flybe is coming back as a commercial airline, and even better that it has chosen Birmingham to house its new headquarters. “Not only does this mean better domestic and international connectivity for our region as well as local jobs and opportunities being created here, but it’s yet another show of faith in the West Midlands with businesses choosing to commit to our region as we recover from the pandemic." Added Andy Street, Mayor of West Midlands.

Those looking to apply for cabin manager are required to have a minimum of 12 months flying experience working as cabin crew. The job posting closes March 11th for Belfast, and no closing date has been listed for the Birmingham cabin manager position.

Potential for expansion at Belfast

Simple Flying previously reported that Belfast could serve as a major focal point for the revamped Flybe. The airline is set to operate a fleet composed entirely of turboprops, and has already received its first De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400, the first of a planned thirty-two. The first Flybe was the world’s largest operator of the Dash 8, which can complete short journeys almost as quickly as a regional jet with significantly lower CO2 emissions.
