75 percent SpiceJet fleets are grounded and only 100 Captains and First Officers [Co-Pilot] are paid on the Boeing fleet, rest of the people are getting Leave Without Pay (LWP). An estimate of 50% departures across all the networks would be cut. Seeing the halt around the flights due to covid last year, most of the Airlines across the world had suffered huge losses. Seeing the rumours it is believed that there would come a condition when all simulators would be halted till further notice. That would lead to further losses maybe for the whole aviation sector. Grounding the fleets is at least ensuring that as per the need the flights are working. Airlines incur huge cost in maintenance so controlling only 25 percent flights is a good decision made by SpiceJet. According to the updates, Spicejet has converted three of its Bombardier Q400 passenger Aircraft into freighters in May 2020, to help with the primary operations of covid -19 in smaller cities in India.
It was recently reported by Flying-Crews.com that SpiceJet Ltd. is expected to post miserable financial results for the March quarter (Q4FY21). They also reported that there would be a dip in the Passenger load factors (PLFs) to 75% and further an expected dip in the yields by 5%.
All these point towards a company moving towards huge losses. In addition to that the second wave of Covid-19 across the country has added to the scenario. As per what ICICI Securities Ltd analysts wrote in a report on 19 April, “Weekly average daily fliers came in at around 193,000 in the week ended 17 April versus around 232,000 in the week ended 10 April." This shows that the situation ahead is also not very promising towards a better growth in passengers or yields. This is expected to be the reason for this take of SpiceJet on it’s fleet and employees

Traveling by plane during the COVID-19 pandemic is difficult for passengers, carriers, airports, health agencies, and governments. The number of people flying has greatly decreased. In 2019, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced 4.5 billion worldwide passenger departures on 39 million scheduled flights (117 per flight on average). In 2019, revenue passenger kilometers (RPKs) traveled totaled 8.7 trillion (with 1911 km per departure on average).
Among all sectors affected by Covid-19, aviation suffered in two respects. Most evidently, there was a concern for contagion. No other industry relies on cramming you into close quarters with outsiders for hours on end while transporting potentially diseased people from one continent to another. There was also the tumbling market, which was less overt. It is a well-known fact in aviation that air transport correlates to GDP. People travel more when they have more capital. But amid this historic downturn, no one was buying plane tickets.
In the past, Airlines have only been stung by one or the other of these factors. Travel was dangerous during Sars, but the world economy did not collapse. Money was tight after the 2008 financial crisis, but traveling was not a health concern. Before this year, these blows have never been delivered in combination in the 110 years since the commercial flight began.
A credit shell is a credit note created against a canceled PNR and can be used by the passenger for a future booking.
IndiGo, India's biggest domestic airline, has refunded approximately Rs. 1,030 crore to customers. "IndiGo completes disbursement of 99.95 % consumer credit shells and refunds," InterGlobe Aviation Ltd's airline said in a statement.
In September 2020, the Supreme Court ordered airlines to automatically refund fares booked for travel until May 24, 2020.
SpiceJet, India's low-cost carrier, was unable to repay passengers' credit shells. National carrier Air India is still yet to refund passengers' complete credit shells. Air Asia and Vistara are yet to return the credit shell to travellers.
AirIndia and other domestic Airlines are severely impacted by the lockout and pandemic-related travel restrictions. According to Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, revenues of major Indian scheduled carriers dropped from Rs 46,711 crore in April-September 2019 to about Rs 11,810 crore in the same period in 2020.
Desperate to survive, all major Indian airlines have taken drastic steps in the last year, such as dismissing staff, slashing wages, and sending employees on unpaid leave.

In such a situation, the status of permanent Flights to some cities has been stopped.
According to the information, many Flights are being canceled for the last several days due to the non-availability of passengers from Indore.
Airlines are continuously canceling Flights from Indore to Nagpur, Mumbai, Pune etc.
Actually, people are afraid to travel because of Corona. The company cancels the Flight due to low bookings and refunds to passengers. Due to which the passengers have to face trouble.
According to agents, people are traveling only when it is absolutely necessary. Even at that, passengers are upset when the Flight is canceled. Here, the company stops flying to the city when there are fewer passengers.
Recently IndiGo has discontinued its Shirdi, Jaipur, Lucknow and Kolkata Flights. They were not getting passengers for these cities. Whereas now Flights to Nagpur, Pune may also be closed. Previously, there were more than 12 Flights every day between Indore and Mumbai, but now their number has come down to 8.. In this also, the Flight is constantly being canceled.
In the summer schedule starting from the last week of March, the Airlines had approved 44 new Flights from the DGCA.
But Flights have not started yet. At the same time, Flights to some cities have been halted.
This has reduced the number of Flights operated from Indore Airport. At the same time, the daily Flight is also canceled.

The Indore International Airport is known as Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport and is located approximately 8 km west of Indore. Named after the Maharani Ahilya Bai Holkar of the Holkar dynasty of the Maratha Empire, the Airport is the 20th busiest Airport in the country. According to the statistical reports garnered during the year April 2011 to March 2012, the Indore Airport received 1,112,834 passenger movements and 13,701 Aircraft movements. Indore is a popular city located in the state of Madhya Pradesh in Central India.
Overview
The Airport has been in existence since the year 1935 when it was under the administration of the Holkar dynasty. The operations of the Airport were formally handed over to the government of India in April 1950. The present day Airport was inaugurated in March 1996 after expansion of the runway. Night landing facilities have also been provided for all the Flights to Indore.
Terminals
There are total of 3 terminals at the Airport – domestic, international and cargo. There are numerous shops, snack bars and facilities of duty free shopping are also available at the domestic and international terminals.
Domestic Terminal– The domestic terminal at the Indore Airport is very well equipped and highly developed. Modern escalators, high tech baggage handling system, two lifts and two escalators are available to assist the passengers. Air India, jet Airways, Jet Connect, IndiGo, Spice Jet and Ventura Air Connect are some of the domestic Flight operators which provides various domestic Flight offers to Indore.
International Terminal– This is the new expandable terminal building which was inaugurated on 14th February 2012 and has the capacity of handling 700 passengers in an hour. Catering to the movement of 46 Flights in a day, this terminal boasts of 16 check-in counters, total of 16 immigration counters (4 of which are at the departure and 12 at arrivals) and four counters for customs. An ATM, book stall and a food court too is available.
Cargo Terminal– As far as Air cargo is concerned, Indore is a popular port for imports and exports. The cargo terminal of the Airport is well maintained with huge warehouses, adequate facilities and strict security.
Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh has the Bhopal Airport which is the closest Airport to Indore, around 169 km away.
