Role Summary
The Director of Maintenance Control, Planning and On Call Maintenance sets the long-term strategy, oversees the financial performance, and ensures safe maintenance operations and compliance with all company, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and governmental safety rules and regulations. As a people leader, this role establishes strategic goals and direction for the team to ensure high standards of performance are maintained in the areas of safety, compliance, quality, and cost.
Key Duties
Direct the day-to-day operation to ensure safe operations and compliance with all company, FAA and governmental safety rules and regulations, including the airworthiness of all company aircraft released from maintenance.
Establish strategic and performance goals for the Maintenance Control, Maintenance Planning & On Call Maintenance teams.
Ensure all strategies and goals support the Company’s unwavering commitment to safety and compliance through process, actions and communication.
Develop people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on fostering strategic and systems thinking across the team and department.
Shape culture of the team through action, presence, and reinforcement of behaviors.
Provide necessary monitoring and oversight for the deferred maintenance items and MEL's to assure that positive corrective action is promptly taken by coordinating with all required departments.
Ensure timely troubleshooting of discrepancies and initiation of corrective actions as required to maintain the airworthiness and reliability of company aircraft throughout the operating day.
Establish and maintain on call and line maintenance provider’s contract with the best interest of the company.
Establish and maintain effective communications with contracted repair agencies, while continually evaluating their performance with company approved maintenance policies and procedures, to ensure the quality of their work meets company standards.
Provide necessary monitoring and oversight for maintenance planning to assure that aircraft inspections are compliant per the maintenance program.
Ensure all personnel assigned to perform maintenance on company aircraft, engines and components by contracted agencies are properly trained and qualified.
Serve as a member of the Reliability Analysis Program Control Board and as an advisor to the Continuing Analysis and Surveillance System (CASS) working group.
Analyze and assess safety risks within the Maintenance and Engineering organization using the SMS policies and procedures as outlined in the Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air SMS Manual and the GPM; identify hazards in the operation, promote safety within the division, ensure effective risk controls are implemented and monitor their effectiveness.
Support the divisional SMS Liaison with development, implementation, maintenance and improvement of the SMS in relation to their responsibilities within the organization.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills Required
7 years of experience in a maintenance operations role.
4 years of leadership experience, with at least 2 of those years directly leading people.
A Bachelor’s degree or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of this degree.
Valid Aircraft Mechanic Technician Certificate with airframe and powerplant ratings.
Meet the requirements listed in CFR 119.65 (d) to exercise control over operations.
Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) and safety regulations.
Experience working with Safety Management Systems (SMS).
Exceptional integrity, with impeccable ethics in safety and compliance.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum age of 18.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred
3 years of experience in a Maintenance Control role.
3 years of experience in contracts with on call maintenance vendors.
Experience working with MEL Manuals and deferrals.
Airport SIDA Badge Requirements

Salary Range
$134,000 - $214,500 / year
Total Target Compensation Range (incl. bonus & equity)
$176,000.00 - $280,650.00

The pay range and total target compensation package listed above is the expected pay offered for this position at the start of employment. Your pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, your relevant experience/level, experience level, and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
