Job Description

   The flight Operations Department supports our daily operations through the managemnet and development of our Safety and Flight Procedural processes. The Department also manages Pilot Hiring process for Southwest Airlines. This starts from the initial espression of interest to the new hires first day of training. If selected you will work full-time as a Team Member within one of the following Teams:
Training
This internship is designed to support Flight Operations in a Training role. In this position the Intern may have the opportunity to assist with overall Flight Operations Training programs and a variety of other corporate wide interface activities within the Department. You will get the opportunity to understand and gain experience in the delivery of the training process of all Southwest Airline pilots. Duties may include assisting with training projects, research, technology development, presentations and meetings that support the role of the Flight Operations Group.

Pilot Hiring Support

This internship is designed to support Flight Operations in the Pilot Hiring Process. In this position, the Intern will support all the hiring processes for our future pilots. Duties may include supporting and assisting with all processes surrounding pilot interviews, pilot sourcing, and participating in industry career events. You may be asked to assist or work closely with other Flight Operations Groups.
Electronic Flight Bag (EFB)

The EFB (Electronic Flight Bag) Intern will assist in the daily administration and pilot assistance/trouble shooting. This position will coordinate with the Flight Operations EFB team for sustainment of the EFB, respond to EFB user calls/emails for the purpose of troubleshooting, monitor ongoing FAA regulatory compliance of EFB program, collect user feedback and track trends for the purpose of program modification, work with the Southwest EFB Manager and third party vendors to ensure quality and stock of EFBs and associated equipment, assist with the administration of the document control management tool (Comply), and assist with deployment and operational testing of application and iOS updates. Occasional travel may be required.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Duties may include assisting with projects, research, data analysis, technology development, presentations, and meetings that support the role of the Flight Operations Group
  • Assist with coordination, organization and administrative duties for the Flight Operations Group
  • May be asked to assist or work closely with either of the Flight Operations Groups listed above 
  • Must adhere to all Southwest Airlines corporate policies including the protection and security of confidential and proprietary information
  • Possible travel involved

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: 
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required. 
Must be at least 18 years of age. 
Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
EDUCATION:
  • Minimum junior level
  • To be eligible must be currently enrolled as a full time student (minimum 12 credit hours).
  • Maintained 2.75 or above cumulative GPA.
  • Progress towards degree in AviationAeronauticsAeronautical ScienceFlight Technology, related field is required
  • Coursework in Aviation SafetyAviation ManagementTechnical Writing, or Human Factors, preferred. 

 EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:
  • FAA Airman Certificates, Ratings, and Flight Hours are highly preferred
  • Aviation related job experience preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required
  • Technical writing experience preferred
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications and Apple Products, including the use of Pivot Tables, querying, and data analysis in Microsoft Excel is preferred
  • Strong computer skills and programming in XML preferred
  • Participation in trade/industry organizations, community involvement, and/or school clubs preferred
  • Knowledgeable of aviation human factors is preferred
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills required
