Air India Express Flight AI613 Safely Lands After Hydraulic Failure, Thanks to Skilled Crew

In a remarkable display of skill and composure, Pilot Capt. Iqrom Rifadly Fahmi Zainal and Co-Pilot Capt. Maitryee Shrikrishna Shitole successfully managed a technical crisis aboard Air India Express Flight AI613. The flight, operating from Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) to Sharjah, encountered a significant hydraulic issue shortly after takeoff, leading to a tense situation that required the crew to circle for nearly two hours before landing safely.

The Boeing 737, carrying 141 passengers, departed Trichy at 17:45 Hrs Shortly into the flight, a hydraulic failure was detected, prompting the crew to prepare for an emergency landing. To ensure a safe descent, the Pilots circled the area, burning off fuel and managing the Aircraft’s weight. Throughout the ordeal, the flight crew kept passengers informed, helping to ease the anxiety on board.

After approximately two hours in the Air, Capt. Zainal and Co-Pilot Capt Shitole safely landed Flight AI613 back at Trichy Airport at 8:15 PM. Emergency services, including ambulances and fire tenders, were on standby to ensure all safety precautions were in place, and passengers disembarked without incident.

Air India Express later clarified that no formal emergency was declared. "After reporting a technical snag, the Aircraft circled the designated area as a precaution to reduce fuel and weight, considering the runway length. A safe precautionary landing was made, and the cause of the issue is under investigation. An alternative Aircraft is being arranged for the onward journey," the Airline stated.

Tiruchirappalli Airport’s Director, Gopalakrishnan, confirmed that more than 20 ambulances and fire trucks were on standby to ensure maximum preparedness during the incident.
