British Airways (BA) is the flag carrier airline of the United Kingdom. It is headquartered in London, England, near its main hub at Heathrow Airport.

The airline is the second largest UK based carrier, based on fleet size and passengers carried, behind easyJet.

BRITISH AIRWAYS:

BA was created in 1974 after a British Airways Board was established by the British government to manage the two nationalized airline corporations, British Overseas Airways Corporation and British European Airways, and two regional

airlines, Cambrian Airways and Northeast Airlines. On 31 March 1974, all four companies were merged to form British Airways. However, it marked 2019 as its centenary based on predecessor companies. After almost 13 years as a state company, BA was privatized in February 1987 as part of a wider privatization plan by the Conservative government. The carrier expanded with the acquisition of British Caledonian in 1987, Dan-Air in 1992, and British Midland International in 2012. Its pre- eminence highlights the reach of the country's influence as many of its destinations in several regions were historically part of the British Empire.

It is a founding member of the Oneworld airline alliance, along with American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Qantas, and the now-defunct Canadian Airlines. The alliance has since grown to become the third-largest, after SkyTeam and Star Alliance

Fleet:

The airline introduced the Boeing 737 and Boeing 757 into the fleet in the 1980s, followed by the Boxing 747- 400, Boeing 767 and Boeing 777 in the 1990s.

Subsidiaries and shareholdings:

BA CityFlyer, a wholly owned subsidiary, offers flights from its base at London City Airport to 23 destinations throughout Europe. It flies 17 Embraer E170/E190 aircraft and two leased Saab 2000. QUESTION AND ANSWERS

WHAT CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT BRITISH AIRWAYS?

British Airways (BA) is the largest airline in Britain by fleet size.

The parent company is called International Airlines Group.

BA is listed on the FTSE stock exchange as IAG.

BA is a member of Oneworld Alliance which includes American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, and Qantas.

History

BA was created in 1974 after a British Airways Board was established by the British government

to manage the two nationalized airline corporations, British Overseas Airways Corporation and

British European Airways, and two regional airlines, Cambrian Airways from Cardiff, and Northeast Airlines from Newcastle upon Tyne.

The airline was privatized (no longer run by the government) in 1974.

BA was famous for flying the Concord and the last flight was in October 2003.

Today

Around 123,000 customers fly with BA every day.

British Airways will celebrate its 100th anniversary on 25 August 2019.

Why do you want to work for British Airways?

I feel British Airways really cares for their customer and goes the extra mile and offers a level of customer service that other airlines do not offer.

Mention you feel you would be proud to work for a company that sponsors Flying Start. Flying Start is British Airways' global charity partnership with Comic Relief UK. The aim is to raise money to help children living incredibly tough lives in the UK and around the world.

Where do you see yourself in five years ?

If you don't know what to say, have a look at other BA jobs and find a position you can see yourself doing in five years.

What is your greatest strength?

The best way to respond to this question is to describe the skills and experience that you have which directly correlate with the job you are applying for. With this in mind, review the job description and reassure the interviewer that you have the experience and skills to do the job.

What is your greatest weakness?

If you lack a skill required for the job then state that as your greatest weakness. However, tell the interviewer how you are overcoming that weakness.

For example, customer service representatives, pilots, and flight attendants all need to speak in public.

So when asked this question state

Public speaking is my greatest weakness. However, I am overcoming this by enrolling in a Toastmasters class.

Give an example of how you have motivated your employees?

Motivation is key to any business and if you can motivate others you will be a great asset to the organization you are applying for.

Personally, I always believed that a simple thank you goes a long way. When someone performs a task or helps me out I usually thank them but I also tell their boss what a great job they did - I find this really motivates employees.

You can always state you don't believe money is a great motivator and a pat on the back can do wonders.

Tell us about your previous experience on how you dealt with a difficult customer or client?

Listen and let the customer vent.

Show the customer you care.

Don't blame the customer or the company.

Try to solve the problem or find someone who can.

Don't make promises you can't keep.

Finally, it is important not to take it personally. If you get upset you will take it on future customers.

Name a time when you went out of your way for a customer?

Remember the customer is always right and if the customer is not happy a company cannot survive but if you go out of your way to a customer they will tell others and the business will flourish. I remember one restaurant I worked for we would give tours of the kitchen to children to give the parents that 10-minute break and the parents would always be grateful. Another example I remember is if we didn't have an item on the menu we would go to the neighboring restaurant and see if we could get it for them. I have a friend who monitors facebook comments and escalates complaints to various departments if a customer is unsatisfied. He even does this on his days off because he cares.

What was your greatest accomplishment in your last job?

There should be very little hesitation when you answer this question.

If you hesitate the interviewer may think you don't care

But an interview can be nerve-racking and it is quite possible you can draw a blank stare for this question.

Below are some examples I came up with:

Perhaps you saved your last/current company money or

Perhaps you improved the quality of your work and the work of others,

Perhaps you helped a co-worker out personally and they were able to continue their work.

Why should I hire you?

The best way to attack this question is to review the job description and highlight the key skills and experience required to do the job. Then reassure the interviewer that you have the skills and experience required.

Making yourself unique is the more difficult task, but necessary since there will be many more applicants applying for the position and you want to leave a memorable impression. Perhaps there is a technology that you know better than any other applicant, or how you went above and beyond for a previous

employer.
