Job Title: Financial Analyst


Department: Finance


Location: Vancouver, BC or Calgary, AB


Work Arrangement: This role is primarily based in the Vancouver, BC or Calgary, AB Corporate Office with occasional work-from-home flexibility.


The Financial Analyst will be required to travel occasionally (likely a few days per month depending on location).



Position Overview:



The Financial Analyst will be responsible for financial modeling, tracking route profitability across a portfolio of routes and bases, variance analysis, invoice approval, and other ad hoc projects.


The Financial Analyst will work in a fast paced, evolving environment and requires a strong understanding of financial modelling and analysis, excellent skills in excel, enhanced technical and communication skills, and a proven ability to partner effectively across business functions. The Financial Analyst is required to be comfortable dealing directly with senior leaders and outside stakeholders (in person, by telephone, and by email), have strong common sense and the ability to communicate financial information to non-finance leaders in English in summary form without use of spreadsheets. The Financial Analyst must possess a strong analytic focus with the ability to recognize anomalies and have an inquisitive nature.


The primary responsibilities of the role will be to deliver world-class KPI’s taking into consideration consumer trends and competitor activity and will be accountable for the following duties:


Budgeting


Acts as a business partner to management and executives, jointly developing forecasting, reporting, analysis, and providing insight into a wide range of business and financial decisions.

Leads the annual Business Planning and Budget cycle from start to finish. This includes co-ordination across all business units on requirements and maintenance of the overall planning calendar.

Conducts meetings and presentations internally with internal Business Planning teams and Senior Management to communicate deliverables and results.

As the Company expert in planning and budgeting, continues to implement best practices, trains current and new managers and provides ongoing analysis of business units to develop a ground-up understanding of each area.

Collaborates with the revenue management team, gathering insights from big data analytics to help drive key insights leading to sound revenue planning.

Prepares the Company’s long-term financial forecast, financial models, and valuations.

Initiate analysis of monthly variances, and works directly with operational management, executives, and the financial reporting team to identify and resolve variances to plan.

Develops and maintains dashboards and KPIs to support analysis of the business, including variances to plan, and tracking of cost-saving and revenue initiatives. Prepares monthly presentations, summarizing results for the VP group.


Route Profitability


Maximize route profitability by creating automated, daily (eventually real time) KPIs measuring revenue from traveled revenue and ancillary sales less all related expenses (actual and allocated) per route.

Develop best-in-class route profitability management tools and techniques.

Deliver effective and accurate profitability reporting on a route level.

Continuously monitor competitor route profitability (where possible) and translate findings into action.


Reporting


Responsible for various period analytics and reporting, including variance analysis, invoice approval and disputes.

Provide reliable reporting of KPIs.

Other duties as assigned by the organization from time to time.


Qualifications & Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor’s or master’s degree (preferred), ideally in a quantitative subject, such as economics, mathematics, engineering, actuarial sciences, business or in a related area.


Experience:

A Minimum of five (5) years progressively responsible experience for an investment bank, major company, or division of a large corporation; ideally with a minimum of one (1) year at a supervisory level demonstrating analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills in managing moderate to complex financial issues.

Crystal clear written and verbal communication.

Exercise sound judgment, make effective decisions.

Self-starter.

Strong work ethic: flexible with the ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines.

Strategic and innovative thinking with superior analytical and problem-solving skills.

Able to see the opportunities and challenge the status quo.

Adept at encouraging entrepreneurial & innovative ideas and building consensus at all levels of the organization.

Strong self-confidence with excellent interpersonal and motivational skills and the ability to summarize and communicate in “non-technical” terms when required.

Technological proficiency, including proven use of multiple software programs is a requirement.

Previous airline experience would be considered an asset.
