Job Opening: Expression of Interest - Jet Pilot (Air New Zealand)
About the Opportunity:
Are you an experienced pilot with a passion for aviation? Now is a fantastic time to consider joining Air New Zealand's esteemed jet fleet! We are currently inviting expressions of interest from external pilots interested in becoming part of our team.
Position Overview:
As a pilot with Air New Zealand, you will begin your journey either as a Second Officer on our Boeing 787 or 777 aircraft or as a First Officer on our Airbus A320/A321 fleet. We seek leaders who are committed to delivering exceptional service, equipped with strong problem-solving skills, and a customer-focused, can-do attitude.

- Safely and efficiently operate Air New Zealand’s jet aircraft, ensuring a world-class experience for our passengers.
- Uphold Air New Zealand’s high standards of service and professionalism.
- Engage with the broader Air New Zealand community, including opportunities in training, recruitment, and other leadership roles.
Eligibility Criteria:
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
- 12 months of command experience on a Part 121 (or equivalent) turboprop aircraft.
- 12 months of First Officer experience on a Part 121 or Part 125 (or equivalent) jet aircraft.
- Command experience on a Part 121 or Part 125 (or equivalent) jet aircraft.
- 12 months of command experience with the RNZAF or other air force, on aircraft of at least equivalent weight to a Part 121 turboprop aircraft.
Minimum Requirements:
- New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority (NZCAA) Commercial Pilot License (CPL) or Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL), and Multi-Engine Instrument Rating (MEIR).
- NZCAA Class 1 Medical certificate.
- 1,500 hours total flight time, including 100 hours in multi-engine airplanes, 100 hours in Approved Training Organizations (ATO), 40 hours of instrument flight time, and 25 hours of night flight.
- NZCAA Basic Turbine Knowledge (BTK) or Basic General Turbine (BGT).
- University Entrance or equivalent.
- Level 6 English Language Proficiency or greater.
- Permanent residency or citizenship of New Zealand or Australia.
- Ability to travel internationally, including holding a valid passport with necessary visas.
Note: NZCAA licenses must be obtained prior to employment. Candidates converting overseas licenses may still be eligible for interviews during the conversion process. Exceptions to some requirements may apply to applicants with military experience.*
