A Captain at Porter Airlines is responsible for commanding and operating aircraft while ensuring the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort. This role involves leading the flight crew, coordinating with ground operations, and making critical decisions in various flight conditions.

Key Responsibilities

Flight Operations:

Command and operate the aircraft safely and efficiently.

Ensure compliance with all aviation regulations and company procedures.

Perform pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight inspections.

Monitor and manage fuel consumption.

Crew Management:

Lead and supervise the flight crew, ensuring effective teamwork.

Provide guidance and support to the First Officer and cabin crew.

Conduct briefings with crew members to ensure smooth operations.

Passenger Safety and Comfort:

Ensure the safety and well-being of passengers throughout the flight.

Communicate effectively with passengers, providing necessary information and addressing concerns.

Manage emergency situations and ensure all safety protocols are followed.

Decision Making:

Make critical decisions during various flight scenarios, including adverse weather conditions.

Coordinate with air traffic control and ground operations for optimal flight performance.

Handle unexpected situations with calmness and professionalism.

Compliance and Documentation:

Maintain accurate flight records and logs.

Ensure all operations comply with Transport Canada regulations and company policies.

Participate in ongoing training and professional development.

Qualifications

Licensing:

Valid Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL).

Current and valid Transport Canada Class 1 Medical Certificate.

Experience:

Minimum flight hours as required by Porter Airlines (typically 3,000 hours total time, including 1,500 hours as Pilot-in-Command).

Previous experience on multi-engine aircraft.

Skills:

Strong leadership and decision-making skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Proficiency in handling various flight instruments and systems.

Ability to remain calm under pressure.

Additional Requirements

Training:

Completion of Porter Airlines' internal training program.

Regular participation in recurrent training sessions.

Character Traits:

High degree of professionalism and integrity.

Commitment to safety and customer service.

Adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic operational environment.

Working Conditions

Schedules:

Variable work hours, including weekends, holidays, and overnight flights.

Potential for long hours and irregular shifts.
